What to Expect at Your First Riding Lesson

Your first riding lesson at Bridges Equestrian is sure to be fun!  You will meet your instructor by the Bridges Equestrian Office in Mission Barn.  After signing a quick release, we’ll help you fit riding boots and a ASTM Certified Riding Helmet if you do not have your own.  Then we’ll meet your mount!  We have plenty of fantastic lesson horses and ponies for every size and ability of rider.

We’ll then give you a brief introduction to handling your horse on the ground and give you instruction on grooming and tacking your mount.  Don’t worry! We won’t expect you to remember everything after your first visit!  After you’ve helped groom and tack your horse or pony, we’ll teach you how to lead your horse to the mounting block and will then teach you to mount.

Once you’re on your horse we will spend your first lesson teaching you to stop, steer, and move your horse forward.  We will teach you proper position and basic arena safety.  Of coarse if you come to us with some experience, we will spend a bit of time assessing your knowledge and pick up right where you left off!
